OpenSolaris 2008.05 を翻訳しませんか ? (Why don't you translate OpenSolaris 2008.05 in your language ?)
I've just posted the message to OpenSolaris i18n-discuss and g11n-ja-discuss mailing list to invite people for translation. This is the action item that I really wanted to kick to start sooner, but we could not find a good solution to leverage the existing translation. Now we decided to use OmegaT and xliff format for trial.
The translation project itself is owned by Project Manager, Ikuko Kagaya, and I am supporting her and OpenSolaris project as a linguistic and strategic partner (I hope I can support well enough as the title stands for 
. The documents which need translation are Release Notes and Getting Started Guide and will be translated into 10 languages - French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Russian, and Japanese. Both of the documents have translated once in the past, and this is the update translation. Leveraged translation is already inserted to the files for translation and you can use translation memory files and glossary files that I confirmed are compatible with OmegaT.

For this time, only Japanese is looking for the translators, and other languages looking for reviewers - this is a pilot project that Sun is jointly working on the documents for translation. The coverage will surely increase to other languages after the process is confirmed. Any suggestion and comments are welcome. I really want to talk to you. Oh, I almost forget to ask you... "Please, please raise your hands for translation or review!!!" That's you to start the game.

つい先ほど OpenSolaris の i18n-discuss と g11n-ja-discuss に、翻訳へのお誘いメールを出しました。やってみたかったのです、この試み。でも、どうやって進めるのか逡巡しており、踏み出せないでいました。過去の翻訳を活かしながら、どうやって社内で使っているツール以外で翻訳を進められるか検討してきましたが、今回、OmegaT と xliff フォーマットで進めてみることにしました。
このドキュメントプロジェクトの責任者は加賀谷郁子で、わたしはプロジェクトの言語品質および戦略パートナーといったところでしょうか。(おぉ、自分で言っておいて、ちょっとプレッシャーが... 名前に恥じないように頑張らなくては)。翻訳・査読を募集しているドキュメントは 2 つで、2008.05 リリースのリリースノート と 2008.05 入門 です。翻訳対象の言語は、フランス語、ドイツ語、イタリア語、スペイン語、ポルトガル語 (ブラジル)、韓国語、簡体中国語、繁体中国語、日本語の 10 言語です。どちらのドキュメントも、過去に一度訳されているので、今回はその更新です。過去の翻訳は、翻訳用のファイルにすでに挿入されているので参考にできますし、OmegaT で使用できる翻訳メモリー、用語集も用意しました。
