Skype, the peer-to-peer VOIP company that was spawned out of KaZaA, has released their beta client for the Java Desktop System Release 2. Previously they only had a version for Windows 2000, XP and Pocket PC.
The main difference between Skype and other IM clients is that it is decentralised. Meaning that the load is borne across the peer-to-peer network. See their Skype P2P Explained page.
