Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Awards
|
A little while ago, I put together a blog post that listed all the various awards for mystery writers. Time to try to do the same for science fiction, fantasy and horror writing. If I've missed any, please let me know, and I'll adjust accordingly. |
- The Arthur C. Clarke Award, is given for the best British science fiction novel from the previous year.
- The Atorox Awards, for the best SF or fantasy published in Finnish.
- The Aurealis Awards, were established in 1995 by Chimaera Publications, the publishers of Aurealis Magazine, to recognise the achievements of Australian science fiction, fantasy and horror writers.
- The Bradbury Award, named in honor of science fiction and screenwriter Ray Bradbury, is not given out every year; it acknowledges excellence as a screenwriter for a particular work.
- The Bram Stoker Awards, given each year by the Horror Writer's Association for superior achievement in horror literature; the award is named in honor of Bram Stoker, author of the seminal horror work, Dracula.
- The British Science Fiction Awards, are given out each year for the best SF published in Britain the previous year.
- The Ditmar Awards , for the best SF published in Australia.
- The Endevour Award, represents a collaboration between writers and fans of Science Fiction and Fantasy to encourage the growth of literature in the field and recognize works of excellence. It is named for H.M. Bark Endeavour, the ship of Northwest explorer Capt. James Cook.

- The John W. Campbell Memorial Award, for best science fiction novel of the year, was created to honor the late editor of Astounding Science Fiction magazine, which is now named Analog. Campbell, who edited the magazine from 1937 until his death in 1971, is called, by many writers and scholars, the father of modern science fiction.
- The Mythopoeic Awards. This award for adult literature, is given to the best fantasy novel, multi-volume, or single-author story collection for adults. The Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Children's Literature honors books for younger readers (from "Young Adults" to picture books for beginning readers), in the tradition of The Hobbit or The Chronicles of Narnia.
