Gobblet!

Last week I ordered this game from MindWare, and it arrived a couple of days ago. Let's just say that you could play this game with two different Russian nesting dolls and a piece of paper with a 4x4 grid on it, if you know the rules, but it's nice to have the wooden game box with the special wooden playing pieces, even if they were a tad expensive.

I've now played with with both my wife and our 6 year old son. The rules are very simple to learn. Even Duncan picked them up after the first couple of games. We are also all beating each other because we are still making silly mistakes.

One of the rules is that if you touch a piece, then you've got to make a move with it (assuming you can, otherwise you forfeit the game). This is taking a little getting used to. I'm also finding I'm forgetting what pieces are stacked inside other pieces, and you can't touch 'em to find out without having to make a move! I'm still thinking about the best strategy for this game too. Do I put out my three big pieces first, or should I initially use up all of my pieces that are from one stack?

All in all though, it's a fun game. It's rightly won a load of awards and it's good for adults and kids alike.
