Abstract Games
|
Regular readers of my blog with know that I like board games and puzzles. I'm also very into abstract games. These can be variants of games like chess or checkers, or complete new games that people have invented. While I was researching the post on Gobblet!, I came across the website for Abstract Games, which includes a magazine and loads of great links to other game sites. |
It does look like the last updates to the site (and issues of the magazine) were in 2003 though, which is a pity. If anybody knows what happened to this magazine, please do tell.
What's really nice, is that for each of the magazine issues, they've made one of the articles in it, available online. To save you having to go searching around on their website, here are a set of direct links:
- Issue 16 Winter 2003: Tablut
- Issue 15 Autumn 2003: Super Halma
- Issue 14 Summer 2003: Sleeping Beauty Draughts
- Issue 13 Spring 2003: A Family for Go
- Issue 12 Winter 2002: Unlur
- Issue 11 Autumn 2002: Omweso
- Issue 10 Summer 2002: Unequal Forces Game Design Competiton
- Issue 9 Spring 2002: Realm
- Issue 8 Winter 2001: Salta
- Issue 7 Autumn 2001: Octagons
- Issue 6 Summer 2001: Gonnect
- Issue 5 Spring 2001: Lightning
- Issue 4 Winter 2000: Onyx
- Issue 3 Autumn 2000: Epaminondas
- Issue 2 Summer 2000: Hex Strategy
- Issue 1 Spring 2000: Mentalis
I've got much more to say about abstract games, but I'll leave that for another day.
