10aroundtown

Back in November, I blogged about there being large Solaris 10's in various places around the Menlo Park campus. I also wrote:

... wouldn't it be a great idea to have a competition to get people to paint original art work on the 10's?

... Then we could leave them around the world for others to find, like the nerdy equivalent of crop circles.

Well it seems it's recently happened, with way cool sculptures.

Sun Microsystems, in conjunction with the Royal College of Art present 10aroundtown.

10aroundtown is an exciting and innovative promotional campaign designed to bring the benefits of Solaris 10 to life.

We have recently run a competition in association with the Royal College of Art in which all first and second year students were asked to design a sculpture based on one of 10 words, each of which represents a key benefit of Solaris 10.

Check out the winning designs and artists.

The "swiss cheese" Compatible one (pictured above) is my favorite.

These 10's will be going public in London, starting today. Check out the details. Also look out for the bowler-hatted Solaris 10 men. Oh to be in London this week. I sure hope they update the web site with some images of all this. Looks like the site is still under construction, so this might indeed happen soon.

It's really great to see memorable advertising such as this. Thanks!
