Wal-Mart Tests Robots for Blind Shoppers
|
There is an interesting article in todays eWeek.com eNewsletter:
It's using RFID technology in this endeavour. |
The robot -- named RG, for Robotic Guide -- is the creation of Vladimir Kulyukin, an assistant professor of computer science at Utah State University and the director of the university's Computer Science Assistive Technology Laboratory. There are some videos of RG on their website.
There is more on using RFID-equiped robots as Guide Dogs in Roland Piquepaille's Technology Trends blog.

Updated Theme (Again)
|
I've just finished updating my blog theme again. A few weeks ago, I tried to setup a layout which has three columns. I wanted to use the middle column to contain the blog entries with the two side columns containing various interesting things related to me and my blog. |
That attempt was unsuccessful as there were various problems with the layout with the columns overlapping. So I quickly reverted to the previous two column layout.
Today I tried again. I started with the example three column layout at BlueRobot. I then spent 2-3 hours "tweaking" it until I had something similar to the previous BrushedMetal theme, this time with three columns. I used the internal Sun blogging site to do this so that it didn't affect my "production" blog. Thanks to Andrea, Brian and Paul for trying out the new version and giving me feedback. And thanks to Dave for solving the last piece of the puzzle; how to get a horizontal scrollbar for text within
...
tags
The header at the top of the blog is very basic at the moment. I thinking about updating that soon. I've been impressed with the "writing" with letter images in Claire's blogs [1] [2]. Maybe I'll do something with that. I'm also learning a bit of Photoshop at the moment. That might give me some ideas too.
If you find any problems with the new theme look, please let me know.
