Tenth Wedding Anniversary
|
Today is our tenth wedding anniversary. We had planned to go up to Napa for the long weekend and immerge ourselves in hot mud again, but what with the weather we've recently had plus what's to come in the next couple of days, it's going to be rather damp up there. |
So instead we're going to hand Duncan off to friends of ours and are going to have a lazy childless weekend near to home. It'll be a nice big steak at one of our favorite restaurants tonight, and hopefully we'll finally get around to seeing that last Potter movie. Dinner and a movie. It'll be almost like we're dating again.
When I first got married ten years ago, I searched the Internet and found a list of the "appropriate" gifts for each anniversary. Here's what I found:
Wedding Anniversary Name (other possible gifts) ------------------------------------------------------------- 1st Paper (clocks) 2nd Cotton (china) 3rd Leather (crystal, glass) 4th Linen, Silk (electric appliances) 5th Wood (silverware) 6th Iron (wood) 7th Wool, Copper (desk sets, pen & pencil sets) 8th Bronze (linens, laces) 9th Pottery, China (leather) 10th Tin, Aluminum (diamond jewelry) 11th Steel (fashion jewelry, accessories) 12th Silk (pearls, colored gems) 13th Lace (textiles, furs) 14th Ivory (gold jewelry) 15th Crystal (watches) 20th China (platinum) 25th Silver (sterling silver) 30th Pearl (diamond) 35th Coral (jade) 40th Ruby (ruby) 45th Sapphire (sapphire) 50th Gold (gold) 55th Emerald (emerald) 60th Diamond (diamond)
So the tenth anniversary is the Tin anniversary. Tin! Gee, that's memorable. Who came up with this list? You'd have thought that being married ten years was a major milestone. Something that would be worth more that tin. Perhaps this list needs an upgrade. I don't see Platinum used as an anniversary name.
Oh yeah, and I can just imagine how impressed the spouse would be if you had gotten them a pen and pencil set for the seventh wedding anniversary.
