If You Like MAKE You Might Like ...

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, one of the questions in the MAKE magazine survey was what other MAKE-like web sites did I visit. A list was given of lots of interesting web sites.

Most of them I'd heard of before and a lot of them I frequent. From this list, I decided to do the Web 2.0 thing, and subscribe to all of them inside Thunderbird, using their RSS feeds. No doubt after a while, I'll find there are some that aren't keeping me interested (or I can't keep up with them), and I'll remove them. What's nice about having them in Thunderbird (as opposed to something like Bloglines which is what I have been using up till now as my RSS reader) is that I can easily save the posts I'm interested in as messages in one of my local mail folders.

There is a mozillaZine article to show you how easy it is to set this up. I was able to work out the RSS feeds for all of them except CNet and Gear Live. (Those are probably hidden their somewhere on there web pages, but it wasn't obvious). Update: they've been found (thanks Joanie!)

I've included them all below, in case others are interested in doing something similar. Where a site had multiple RSS feeds, I selected the one that was most general (or all inclusive).

43Folders Ars Technica BoingBoing
CNet Craftzine.com CrunchGear
Digg Engadget Etsy
EurekAlert! Fark Gear Live
Geek.com Gizmodo Hackzine.com
Instructables jkOnTheRun Laughing Squid
Makezine.com Neatorama NewScientist.com
O'Reilly Radar Parenthacks.com PopSci.com
Slashdot Swapatorium TechCrunch
Techmeme ThinkGeek ToolMonger

There was also a box on the survey question to allow you to enter what other similar sites you visit. Two of my favorites are:

LifeHacker

Hack a Day

I'm curious what similar favorites other people have. After the survey has run it's course, it would be cool if O'Reilly make public the other suggestions that people had made.
