Even though our son doesn't have his actual birthday until Thursday, we had his birthday party last Saturday. Unlike the previous year, this year, the number of kids invited was greatly reduced. Just eight of his closest friends, seven of which were in town and were able to come.
It was a Pirate theme. Each of the kids were supplied with an eye patch and a pirate hat to get them in the mood. We were going to have some Pirate related games like Walking the Plank, but after trying this out before hand, and finding it was really tricky, we had visions of trips to to the local ER and potential law suits, so we went for much simpler games.
Here's some commentary on the shots above, taken with my phone. (We took
some more shots with our Canon A60, but we've lost
misplaced the custom USB cable from the camera to the PC, so I've placed an
order for a generic USB Flash card reader that should make this a lot easier.
That should be coming soon).
- Here's the lull before the storm. The quiet period before the kids arrived. The snacks are starting to appear on the table. The pool toys are set out. The water in the pool is exactly that. In the pool.
- Some of the kids have arrived. The party has started! The water is
starting to get turbulent and overflowing. More goodies on the table.
There was a small keg of
GrogRoot Beer which was a great hit. We even had Pirate's Cannon Balls. - Another of Baskin Robbin's wonderful ice-cream cakes. Well, half of it. Even though we had a Pirate theme it was a Madagascar cake with the message "Snoopy is the best" (don't ask; even I don't understand it, but it's what Duncan wanted).
- One of the games was coin tossing from the Quadro Pirate ship. It was surprisingly popular. So much so that the second half of the party was "on land" as opposed to being "at sea" (in the pool). This really helped with mellowing out everybody before they had to go home.
- Finally a shot of after the party. Here's Duncan with his cousin, checking out his party booty. Lots of great gifts. Each of the party attendees took home a little chest full of goodies too, as well as their eye patch and hat.
