Favorite Hack A Day Links - September 2004
|
Another site mentioned on BoingBoing in their five years worth of archives that was worth more then a single project mention. It's Hack A Day, a site dedicated to hacking, modding and DIY hardware and software, (but mostly hardware). |
Note that in some cases, you are going to void your warranty and may cause your product to cease to function correctly, so please make sure you know what you are doing. At least with these links you should have fun doing it.
Over the next several days, I'll pick my favorites from their archives.
Occasionally you see a link for something that was so way cool I couldn't help myself, but mostly I've picked links for hardware I have and might like to mod in the future, when its currently usefulness diminishes with age and I don't mind if I accidentally destroy it. So you won't see anything for a pocket PC, an iPod, a PlayStation or an xBox for example. If you have those and feel a HackAttack(TM) coming on, visit the Hack A Day site and look around for yourself.
In a few instances the links to these projects were broken. For those, I've googled and found something that is hopefully equivalent and just linked to that.
One thing to note is if you start following some of these links, you end up at some other great sites with oodles of other hacking projects.
- mod the keypad and leds on phones [link]
- make 3d photos with any digital camera [link]
- building a megapixel digital camera from a flatbed scanner [link]
- add a cigarette lighter to a pc [link]
- make satellite photo maps with gps devices [link]
- make a ramjet engine [link]
- radioshack phone dialer - red box [link]
