How to Make a Mini Jack-O-Lantern
Over the weekend, we had a practice run at pumpkin carving. We used some excellent instructables.
We'd picked up three small pumpkins from the local veggie stand earlier in the week and with the help of a pumpkin carving kit (obtainable from Target for about four bucks), we started hacking away.
I found some nice simple designs, one of which I used for my pumpkin face (printed at half size).
Whereas Lynea and I adopted the traditional approach to pumpkin carving, Duncan felt the need to do it his own way. He also wanted to try out the glow pins. Another four dollar kit from Target. His is the one on the left. The one that looks like it's got a bad case of acne.
There are three different lighting techniques here. Duncan's uses a 9 volt battery to power something that looks like an oversized Bic lighter and which can cycle the light in three colors. It was overkill for the mini-pumpkin, but it'll be great when we do the large ones this weekend. Lynea was using a small white bulb powered by a small battery. Mine (in the middle) used the tea-candle suggested in the set of Instructables.
