HP FUD
|
I just read Sameer Tyagi's post which points out a website from HP that spreads fear, uncertainty and doubt over the new Niagara processors we've just released and the server products that include them. |
This is really so misleading. They've picked up on the things that Niagara isn't designed to do and are trying to confuse the reader into believing that this isn't the computer for them. They may be right, but we have several alternatives to suggest if that's the case.
I have some advice for those potential new computer purchasers.
Think about what you are going to want to do with your new servers. If you are going to be using them for something like a webserver, that typically isn't CPU bound, and you want maximum throughput (the ability to serve up as many web pages as quickly as possible), then Niagara and the two SunFire servers (T1000 and T2000) are for you. There are lots of other tasks (such as all web-tier and app-tier environments) that these machines are designed to handle, and handle very well.
If you do have a need for a server that needs the fastest CPU's around or you need lots of floating point capabilities, then checkout one of our other sets of product offerings.
Better yet, run a benchmark test that reflects the kind of work you want to do. Run it on Sun's servers and the competitions and from that, determine which one is best for you.
Then you won't have to just take my word for it.
Oh, and by the way, all of these Sun servers have dramatic space and power efficiency over our competitors products.
Okay. I've vented. I'll take my marketing/sales hat off now, and return you to your normal Burridge blog.
