I Want A Linux/Unix Freeware Utility To ... - Update 2nd August 2007
|
It's hard to believe that it's been almost six months since I've updated this list. I've now integrated all the suggestions I've received from various people (thanks!) |
These were:
- From Erick Woods:
Added a note to indicate that tsclient is also a front-end to VNC and X via XDMCP. - From Charles Nichols:
Inclusion in the References section to "Mohawke's Best of the Best Free and Open Source Software Collection from Dark Artistry"Added isomaster to section M2 - burn/create CD/DVD iso image files.
- From Ben Pintilie:
Added a new B14 section (edit mp3/wav files) and added audacity to it. - From Bart:
Added gqview to section I19 (find any duplicate photographs in a folder). - From Diego Pettenò:
To cut wav files (B-13) you can use shntool.KDE also provide ksnapshot for Screen Shots (C-1)
Kopete has experimental support for Google Talk (D-5) audio calls, chat works as it's Jabber.
KDevelop (F-1) should have a K icon beside, as well as Filelight (G-7)
If K-3 can be extended to "your browser" rather than Firefox, Konqueror (KDE) allows you to do it from the bookmark editor: File, Export, Export to HTML bookmarks.
For K-5, KDE also have an XML-proper editor.
K-9, KMail should have a K icon, not a cli icon.
M-26: kima also is good for KDE.
N-7: KDE has KOrganizer/Kontact (kde suite)
Q-1 and Q-4: K9Copy for KDE.
Q-9: mplayer, xine and frontends (like Kaffeine for KDE).
- From Alan Horkan:
Created a new section C-13 (General word processing) so that abiword could be added to the list. Also added OpenOffice and KOffice to this section.Added Xarchiver to section G-2.
- From zbrox:
The burning of CD's application Brasero is a GTK application, so is Serpentine.
Added mpg123 to section B-4 (play all mp3 files in a folder).
Added quodlibet to section B-3 (organize the mp3 collection).
- Added little green balls to all the applications I've personally tried since the last update to this list.

I recommend that you add the KDE ID3 tag editor Kid3 in section B.11 of your list. (see http://kid3.sourceforge.net)
