In Memory of Philip Rosenzweig

I'm sure all of us who knew him have our own special memories.
Phil, almost unknowingly, did an incredible thing for me.
This would have been in 1998. A team working for him were investigating protocols for scalable reliable multi-casting. Phil came out to the West coast for a meeting. Mark Hapner and myself were present because of the work we were doing at that time on the Java Messaging Service (JMS) specification. My manager was there and our director. (I won't give our director's name. She's no longer working for Sun).
At the end of the meeting, almost as a throw-away comment, Phil said to me how much he was impressed with my work on the Java Shared Data Toolkit (JSDT) -- a project that I'd put a lot of work into -- in particular, the ability to dynamically load transport protocols (something I have a patent for).
You could see my directors ear's prick up. Suddenly she had an interest in JSDT and it was finally released as a product by Sun in August 1998 (mainly due to the work on my manager).
Thank you Phil. It was such a little thing. I'm not even sure you realized what an impact that single comment made, but it helped me so much.
