Jury Duty and Vacation

I received a letter about six weeks ago, telling me I was a potential juror between 14th - 18th August, so every day this week, I've been checking a Santa Clara County Superior Court web page twice a day, to see if my jury group was selected.
Part of me really didn't want to do it because this is virtually the last week we can check bug fixes into Orca before the GNOME 2.16 Release Candidate call-for-tarballs on Monday. Another part of me was interested, and personally wanted to see the American judicial system in action (probably caused by watching too much O.J. Simpson in the mid-90's and wanting to see if it was really as bad as that was).
I've been a juror once before. This was back in Reading, England in the early 80's, when the race riots were going on. I was part of a jury who found three young men guilty of making petrol bombs in Slough.
It was certainly time I did my civic duty once again. In the end, my name wasn't called, so I'll have to wait until next time.

I'll by taking a weeks vacation next week. It's Duncan's last week before he returns to school, now as a freshly minted 3rd grader. |
It's also his birthday next week, so there will be a Pokemon Pool Party. You can't imagine how much I'm looking forward to a bunch of eight year olds incessably nattering on about Pokemon. The Japanese have got a lot to answer for (or at least Satoshi Tajiri and Nintendo).
Blogging break until Monday week.
