Links for 18th January 2008
- Astronomy Picture of the Day
I stumbled upon this cool image, and am now taking their daily feed
- How to make a vacuum tube
Almost from first principles. Sure helps to have all those tools and that equipment lying around. Or course I would have been more impressed if he's started by smelting the metal (just kidding).
- Open source game development
This is potentially interesting. Early days yet. I'll check back in a few months.

Even better (or at least easier for us non-french-speakers to understand) are 2 books from Pete Friedrich (see http://www.hpfriedrichs.com/). Check out his pages on "Voice of the Crystal" and "Instruments of Amplification". He is a fine craftsman and details the construction of many heirloom-quality electronics parts from scratch in the VOC book; and of vacuum tubes and transistors in IoA. Check out his photo galleries, especially!
