McDonald's: Want VOIP with That?

This interesting snippet about a trial that McDonalds is currently running, comes from today's eWeek email summary:

Offering ketchup packets via voice packets, the fast-food giant is experimenting with drive-throughs staffed through distant call centers. The tech special sauce includes VOIP, VPN, DSL and TCP/IP.

They're going to use the existing speakers at the drive-thru, some of which have been there for 20-30 years!

Wanna bet that if this works, that those call centers will be in some overseas location where the minimal wage is even less than it is here in the U.S.?

I'm lovin' it.

And I'm sure they'll still forget to put the paper napkins in.
