Olympic Proxy
Olympic Proxy

Just like last time, NBC seems to have this aversion to showing anything at the Olympics unless there is an American in it. Their web site content is just as bad. |
If you are as fed up as Jason and I am, you might want to try setting up an olympic proxy.
(Thanks Hackszine).

Humm. The badminton NBC pages carry a lot of non-US content...

Thanks for the mention!
Even ignoring the quality of the content selection, it just seems so odd to me that in 2008 we're still dealing with the backwardness of location restricted content, especially in the context of the Olympic games.
The irony is that if things were distributed by the same licensees in a completely open format, you'd be able to serve the long-tail but the majority at the fat end of the curve would still choose to view content from the intended sponsor since it's still a faster download and represents regional interests. Then there's the good-will and positive brand experience for everyone involved.
On the bright side, there's another 4 years of planning that'll go into getting it right next time.
