Recently Read - 21st January 2008

Here's a list of the books I've recently read, with an Amazon-style star rating and a few comments.

Which brings me onto Neil Gaiman. If you read Gaiman's bio, it mentions that he was the writer of the Sandman comics (which I'd never read). So this time I decided to do something about it and for the first time, started to read some of the best from the genre of the graphic novel. I wasn't disappointed.

This has now left me wanting to read other great graphic novels and comic books. I'll probably start from this list. Other recommendation gratefully accepted.

Do you ever sleep? You read all those books in the month since your last "Recently Read"?

Yes, but there's a lot of thin books there,
plus I read several over the Christmas break,
plus four of them are comics (in book form).

I like your list of graphic novels and also the other one you link to. There is however a great omission, check out the programme from
humanoids publishing
most stuff I can recommend heartily. In particular: the meta barons, incal, nickopolis trilogy
also quite fun is the invisibles

Thanks magi. I'll see if I can find them.

As far as graphic novels go. I would recommend the Preacher series by Garth Ennis. Also anything by Frank Miller, check out Ronin. These are more collections than a single graphic novel.

For more recent releases, one of the best would be Pride of Baghdad by Brian K. Vaughan.

Thanks Amado!

If you are also interested in ongoing comics series you can easily find the trade paperback of Fables, one of the best series available.

You've already hit the major comics I would mention, but two more recent (and worthwhile) collections would be "Lucifer" and "Y: The Last Man". The former is a series about the Lucifer character Gaiman created in "Sandman"

Oh, also: "Transmetropolitan"

Thanks Tyler (and Gianluca). Luckily the local
county library system has a lot of the suggested
titles so they should be fairly easy (and
inexpensive) to get hold of.

I have a bunch of the early Fables. I can ship these to you if you like. Never will reread them anyways.

Thanks for the offer Amado, but that's okay.

Our library appears to have them all, and I've
just got out the "Animal Farm" one to see if I
like them.
