In a similar style to a previous post, here's a list of several books that I've read over the last three months, (that I haven't already reviewed in more detail), with an Amazon-style star rating. |
- Yes, We Have No Neutrons - A. K. Dewdney
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - J. K. Rowling.
(Currently 2706 reviews of this book at Amazon. <Sigh>). - Heminway's Chair - Michael Palin
(Excellent for a first novel. Funny with an unexpected ending). - The Deep Blue Good-by - John D. MacDonald
(The one that started a long series). - Get Shorty - Elmore Leonard
- Fantasy of the 20th Century - Randy Broecker
(Great artwork, but it really only touches fantasy in the 20th century. If you want to get something definitive, try The Encyclopedia of Fantasy). - The Time Tunnel - Murray Leinster
(The second version of this book by Murray Leinster. The one based on the TV series. Click here if you are still confused). - What Do You Care What Other People Think - Richard P. Feynman
(Feynman is one of my heroes. A genius who can explain things in simple terms). - Secrets of the Maze - Adrian Fischer & Howard Loxton
- Eternity Road - Jack McDevitt
- The Revenge of the Baby-Sat - Bill Watterson
- Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat - Bill Watterson
- The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversay Book - Bill Watterson
(For anybody who hasn't read any Calvin and Hobbes strips, this is a good book to start with. That's if you can't wait or afford the complete set; which has a five star rating and hasn't been released yet. It not only introduces each of the characters, it also gives Watterson's philosophy on Calvin and Hobbes and cartoon strips in general). - Thud - Terry Pratchett
(During this last week, two different friends of mine told me that they not only hadn't read any Terry Pratchett, they didn't even know who he was was! What can I say? My flabber was gasted. Start with The Color of Magic and then keep going until you get to Thud. Thank me later).
