OpenSolaris Community&Adoption The courage to innovate

On Dec. 20th, 2008, we conduct a Sun OpenSource Day in Qinu Software Park, Jinan City of ShanDong Province, China

This event attracts about 25 engineers from 11 companies, some of them are CTO, manager or director.

We deliver four topics in this event : OpenSolaris new feature, ZFS,

Zone and Dtrace.

The Top 1 feature that these engineers love is ZFS, on which we spend quite a lot of time, talking and discussing.

After this event, 23 engineers planned to setup OpenSolaris User Group in JiNan, so they can learn more about this cool product.

我在安装最新版本的OpenSolaris时，常是全新安装。我比较不想用升级的方式，主要原因是信不过程序员，哈哈，升级产生的问题还蛮多的。由于是全新安装，就涉及到数据的备份。这里我用的是rsync。步骤如下：
假设服务器IP为：192.168.0.3，请在实际使用中相应修改。

1。安装 rsync包:
 pfexec pkg install SUNWrsync

2。配置服务器配置文件( /etc/rsyncd.conf)，该文件默认不存在，请创建它。
在文件中输入如下内容，以最简单的例子：

path = /root            #要备份的路径，本例备份的是 /root目录
uid = root

3。修改文件：/etc/services，加入 如下内容。该文件默认只读，请将其改为可写（命令：chmod +w /etc/services）：
rsync      873/tcp              #rsync,added by Ricky

4。启动rsync服务：
命令：pfexec rsync --daemon &

5。在另外一台服务器上，即可进行备份。同样的，也先装 rsync包才行：

命令 : pfexec rsync --progress -a 192.168.0.3::ftp /export/backup
(注：请确保文件夹 /export/backup)

注意：常出现 ＠ERROR chroot错误的话，应该重新写下配置文件，只要有多余的空白行，就会出错。

Report from Fang Li, OpenSolaris Community & Technology Adoption Team

Dear All,

This is a follow up (to our report on the same Subject last month) also
a completion summary on Sun's technical sponsorship to place OpenSolaris
as Contest Platform for 33rd ACM/ICPC (Association of Computer & Machinery/
International Collegiate Programming Contest) in Asia/China.

3 regional contests have been successfully conducted in the past November:
- Hefei: Nov 15-16, hosted by University of Science & Technology of China
attracted 103 Teams (360+ students) from 72 Universities

- Hangzhou: Nov 22-23, hosted hosted by Hangzhou Dianzi University,
participated by 115 Teams (330+ students) from 69 Universities

- Chengdu: Nov 29-30, hosted by Southwest University for Nationalities
attended by Teams (300+ students) from 66 Universities

Counting the other 2 Regional Contests held in October,
- Harbin (Oct 10-11, hosted by Harbin Engineering University)
110+ Teams (400+ students) from 73 Universities in 5 Countries
(China, Russia, Japan, Singapore & Korea), and

- Beijing (Oct 25-26, hosted by Beijing Jiaotong University):
100 Teams (300 students/93 coaches) from 66 universities in 2 countries
(China & Mongolia)

By now, we've successfully completed Sun's technical sponsorship commitment
to ACM/ICPC contests in China this CY2008.  Great to witness these young student
developers & their coaches adopting & using our technology/products, and learn
they're so committed and enthusiastic about Sun & Open Source technologies.

To recap a few highlights:
- OpenSolaris runs as ACM/ICPC China Contest Platform, tool set includes
SunStudio 12, NetBeans 6.1

- This program paves the way for our OpenSource technology adoption amongst
academic community (faculty/coaches & student developers both), also contributes
to SMI FY09 goal on OpenSolaris Installation & Student Connection.

- Collaborative efforts/outcomes generated from this program:
. University Sun Tech Day Forum Talk in all these 5 cities
. Boost User's Group setup/activities in these cities
. Universities are confirming to include OpenSolaris in their Practice Course
  curriculum (5 in Pipeline this Q2-Q3)
. Schools are asking for OpenSolaris Hands-on Lab set up for Students
. Some schools are inquiring to upgrade their Lab environment (Sales-lead)
. Sun Learning Service presented & promoted SLS offerings to the Universities

Obvious to see & get the exciting opportunity this Program brings to Sun &
introduces to the Community...

Lots of people to thank for the entire success of this program, and we must remember
these two guys Ricky Zhou & Edgar Liu - Ricky is the PM on this ACM/ICPC technical
sponsorship overall delivery/implementation, and Edgar is the primary technical support
from Sun to work with ACM/ICPC partners to ensure contests run smoothly on OpenSolaris.

主要有如下几步来装五笔的包:

1. 安装包 SUNWscim SUNWscim-tables SUNWscim-tables-chinese

命令如下 ：pfexec pkg install SUNWscim SUNWscim-tables SUNWscim-tables-chinese

2. 将输入方式改为scim。默认是iiim的。

修改文件　$HOME/.profile，加入如下信息：

GTK_IM_MODULE=scim

export GTK_IM_MODULE

3.　注销系统，重新登录即可发现菜单面板里有一小键盘
