While the target market is no doubt CIFS/Windows, it does claim to support NFS (Appletalk and FTP, too).

It has 4 x 250GB drives in a RAID configuration, and gigabit ethernet as the primary transport.

Looks pretty cool on the surface, I wonder if it has a decent NFS implementation?

I guess this answers the question on the NFS implementation:

"The Apple File and SMB protocols are badly out of date and incomplete. The box claims NFS but tech support admitted that the feature never made it into production."

This could make an interesting potential OpenSolaris+ZFS NAS server for home use... Heck, it' worth it just for the drives...

I for one need that. ZFS + cheap disks would make a cheap enterprise class NAS with features like compression/snapshot/encryption/auto-resizing. Want to expand more than one box?, use iSCSI or use ZFS with backstore files over NFS :-)

Richard: Take a look at the Infrant ReadyNAS 600 (www.infrant.com). I have one at home and am satisfied with it. A well-designed product at same pricepoint as the Terastation. It has worked as advertised up to this point. It is also reviewed at tomshardware.com.

I read at Campworld Wiki and at Terastation Wiki that the TeraStation can be hacked to support NFS. I'm interested...! Unfortunately, it looks like you have to hack your way into the firmware and use cracked passwords, which definitely sucks.
