Fab's Love-Child Sang at Opening Ceremony!
Beijing, August 12th, 2008 In an ironic and startling twist, it was revealed today that the love-child of former Milli Vanilli front-man Fab Morvan and Hong Kong singer Yeung Chin-Wah actually provided the vocals to Lin Miaoke's Olympic performace of “Ode to the Motherland”. It seems that officials didn't think that the world was quite ready to accept Mei-xie Morvan, age 8.
"Rob, here's to you," said Mr. Morvan when revealing the hoax, referring to ex-partner Rob Pilatus, who died of an overdose in 1998.

Just to add to this... the story as reported by the BBC is really missing some
analysis. The first thing to note is that Chen Qigang said this on a radio
station... he also probably said it in Chinese to an audience of Chinese, not
even thinking that somebody would translate his statement into English and have
it retold around the world.
I think that any keen observer of the West (especially of the USA) would see
that image is everything. Folks spend millions on millions of dollars getting
botox injections, chin implants, breast implants, penile implants, calve
implants... I've even heard of dogs which had been neutered being outfitted with
testicle implants. I mean, we're a society *obsessed* with physical appearance.
What was simply done here is that they went with replacing the whole body
instead of bits and pieces of it. (And, as I noted in the main blog entry,
they're certainly not the first ones to do this!)
Also, I can say as some who has spent a good amount of time in Beijing,
folks here are for the most part totally opposite. I mean, they just don't seem
to have the same hang-ups about physical appearance than in the West... they're
more concerned with what is happening inside of a person.
When Chen Qigang was speaking, he was doing it to an audience that he thought
would understand... in order for the singer to make a favorable impression on
Western audiences, she'd have to look a certain way.
Indeed, could one picture Yang Peiyi ten or so years from now having a shot at
winning American Idol? I don't think so.
