With advice from stevel, I just did a liveupgrade from snv_58 to snv_59 using my ipod:

1. ftp'd the iso directly onto the ipod at work
2. brought it back to the hotel and hooked it up to my f4005
3. # lofiadm -a /media/ROBERT\'S\ IP/images/solarisdvd.iso
4. # mount -F hsfs /dev/lofi/1 /mnt
5. # /mnt/Solaris_11/Tools/Installers/liveupgrade20 -nodisplay -noconsole
6. # luupgrade -u -n solenv2 -s /mnt
7. # luactivate solenv2
8. # init 6

the execution of the luupgrade command took about one hour and ten minutes.
