So, I'm listening to pandora.com, Billy Joel's song Piano Man comes on, I somehow latch onto these lyrics:

He says, son, can you play me a memory?
I'm not really sure how it goes
But its sad and its sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger mans clothes

and, then, I'm suddenly right smack in the midst of "The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock":

I grow old ... I grow old...
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.

Wow, what a trip.

Funny, ever since I read that poem at Santa Rosa Junior High I have loved it. My favorite lines are:

"I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas."

It is so perfect and so simple. thanks for reminding me of that amazing poem.
