walk, forrest, walk
david, forrest, and i met for lunch today. we went to a korean restaurant in the zhong guan cun shopping center near my hotel. the food was served in hot stone bowls. of course, there was kimchi.
after lunch, david went off to meet paul (no, i don't know about peter... could've been off talking with mary about their april 20th gig at the count basie theatre), and forrest and i took leo for a long, long walk around the neighborhood.
there are a lot of university campuses around my area, and we spent most of our time walking around them. it was very relaxing... and quite quiet for long stretches.
we passed by two sets of lions along the way. of course, i had to stop and get pictures of leo with them:
during lunch, forrest had given david and me some background on why he'd chosen his english name of forrest. we really liked his reason. that's one cool thing about having an english name... most of the time folks can choose it later in life, and it can mean something special to them.
one of the pleasures of my adult life was the process of choosing my chinese name, 苏谨彦. forrest and the rest of the zfs gang, along with forrest's girlfriend (now wife), and john, helped me with it over a two week period in january of last year... soon after i started this job.
i wanted a name that was close to the meaning of robert (shining with fame) and gregory (watchful or vigilant)... thanks for setting the bar high, mom and dad... and su1 jin3 yan2 was the result.
of course, now i'm expected to be able to pronounce it, and sign it... sunny had to sign it for me on my legal documents. i do so long for the days when a chop was enough... which reminds, i need to get one made...
