Just a few days ago, google revelead their plans to offer gmail for domains (as predicted by Garett Rogers). I guess this is in retort to Microsoft's "Windows Live Custom Domains". Currently in beta, the service seems to be targeted at corporate users and might become a paid offering when it is launched in final stage. It would be interesting to see how the service matures into a final product.
The thought thats bouncing in my head is that this beta service is offered to corporate customers. How many corporate customers out there would like to have their email's stored outside of their realm of control ? Windows Live Custom Domains on the other hand is for any user who owns a domain name. Well, I guess Microsoft does have an edge over Google with regard to users this service here...

Poor Students. They now get to see google ads with their emails.
