Shot From the Hip

The corny title can only mean one thing.  Yup, after 10 years I'm leaving Sun.  I still remember my first day at Sun, they didn't have an office for me so they put a desk in the storage closet and stuck me with a Javastation that worked when it felt like it.  Aah, good times .  Since then I've worked on many projects with many great people, so I guess Sun made up for it . There are a few unanswered questions as to what's next for me, but it gives me a great amount of peace that through life's uncertainties, God is steadfast and He knows our needs.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." -- Matthew 6:25-34

So I'll be working on verse 33 and 34 (in bold) and in the midst of that, God willing, I hope to chase a dream.  So I leave you with a photo from my trip to Israel this past year.

It's always bittersweet to send folks off to college.  I'm sad that they're leaving yet excited for what God has in store for them.  We'll miss you guys!

So this past week I hit my 10 year anniversary here at Sun.  When I think back to all that has happened in 10 years, it's been quite a ride.  Part of my personality though is that I like to stick with things as best I can, until I know it's time to move on, like...

1. Olympus E-1 [4 Years almost].  5 MP DSLR, a relic by today's standards, but still the camera I enjoy using the most
2. Youth ministry [9 years] 7 yrs. of friday nights, but really a lifetime of involvement. 
   
3. Maxima [11 years strong].  Almost 200k miles.  The way I drive it, I'm surprised it's lasted this long, and it still drives with some umph.  Funny thing, since Yosemite the engine light  has been on but for some reason the light turned off this week.  How cool is that. 
   
4. Church [11 years]
   
5. First suit - [16 years] Still wear this quite a bit for weddings and BSF.
6. Dunlop 300i tennis racket - [19 years] Don't use it much, but it waits patiently in my closet.
   

I'll admit that I'm not immune to the winds of progress (as I wait for the E-1 replacement).  I guess for me it just seems most of the time that the grass is greener on the other side if you don't water and take care of your lawn. Even after 10 years, I'm still learning new things at work, I guess God is not yet done teaching me.

Home in LA for the week.  It's sticky HOT and to cool off I get hot tea.  Who needs AC.

Played ball yesterday after a 6 months of knee rehab and today I lifted weights for the first time in almost a year.  Not sure why, but I'm actually looking forward to being sore tomorrow.  Go figure.

I'm not the type of person that has "favorite songs", but if I did, this would be one.  Sang it this morning and have been singing it all day.
