NetBeans 5.0 has shipped! You've probably heard this news - its everywhere! NetBeans 5.0 and the NetBeans Mobility Pack 5.0 are now available. See http://www.netbeans.org for download info.

I haven't said on this blog what I actually do at Sun, but it may be worth mentioning - I'm the director for Java Studio Creator and NetBeans Mobility Pack. So, as you might guess, I'm having a really happy new year! Its a pretty happy life anyway working with these great teams, but shipping two great products in as many weeks is pretty special.

We're going to celebrate with the Creator and Netbeans teams a bit today and then I'm playing a gig tonight with my band Jammin' Salmon at the Prince of Wales Pub in San Mateo, CA. Hurt me with too much fun!

Java Studio Creator 2 is released! After a very successful early access program, we're very happy to announce the availability of Sun Java Studio Creator 2. You can find out about all the great new features (and how to download Creator for FREE) at the Creator web site . There's lots of great info there, but I will point out here that this version of Creator has some great AJAX enabled components available and is being featured currently on Sun's SDN Channel .

Congratulations to the entire Creator team and thank you to all the folks who participated in our early access program.

More awards for Java Studio Creator eWeek recently published their top product picks for 2005. Among those listed were Solaris 10 and Java Studio Creator! See the Sun press release or the original eWeek article for details.

And, Java Studio Creator was chosen by developer.com readers as "Java Tool or Add-in of the Year". Here is the article announcing all the winners and another specific to Creator's award.

Congratulations to the Creator team!

Speaking of time

One of my hobbies is brewing beer. I've been at it quite a few years and I must say the results are pretty pleasing.

Over the years, I've occasionally written software to help me plan and track brewing sessions, mostly just the basic recipe calculations to help make sure the finished beer is in the desired style range and that I can reproduce it if I'm happy with the results. I don't really need to keep reimplementing the program, and there's both free and commercial software available, but it gives me an excuse to write some code.

I'm hoping to get some free time soon to brew a little and also work on a new version of the recipe calculator. The last one I did was an exercise to use Java Studio Creator, and so it was a JSF based web application using a database. For the next one, I think I'm going to go back to working on a swing based version, so I can play around with the latest Netbeans release. I really want a good reason to sink my teeth into Matisse and I'd also like to try my hand at basing the application on the Netbeans Platform for building rich client applications.

Sláinte!

Its about time Sure, I'll start blogging. Why not? Hopefully, there'll be occasional interesting things to write on, drawing from happenings at work, my interests in music and whatever else happens to interest me at the time. Oh, yeah, I'll also have to find the time. Posted by treacy ( Dec 20 2005, 12:00:00 AM PST ) Permalink
