Netbeans Quick Tip #12 - Fast Navigation to Methods and Fields

Well this tip is not from my head (thanks Gregg ;-)... You can navigate very fast to a method in source editor by following these steps:

1. Press Ctrl-7 to get focus to navigator.
2. Type in first letters of the method, e.g. "ma" for main.
3. Press enter -> now you are moved to the beginning of the method.

A nice small time saver - you don't need to use the mouse to scroll down or search for the method or field.

Comments:

Maybe a direct search over methods in an editor would be great. Something like CTRL-O in Eclipse.

Good idea. Can you file it into issuezilla as enhancement against editor? So that people can vote for it etc. Thanks!

I just wanted to notice that this feature is available in Explorer views (Projects, Files, etc,), in Properties - in all TreeViews. I'm not sure what is it name of this feature but the behaviour should be as described in issue 33931. I call it "Quick search" or "Popup search" ;)

it would be nice to have a feature like Java file search within project sources, or general file search within project.... somthing like the Ctr+N and Ctrl+Shit+N in IntelliJ .. this saves a lot of time looking for src file when having a large number of files spread around multiple package strutures.. i will try to search issuezilla and see if its already suggested.
