Goal Setting
I've heard that a person is much more likely to achieve a goal if it is written down. Therefore, I am not only writing this goal down, I am posting it here so that all the world may make fun of me if I fail to achieve it.[Read More]

Building and Deploying OpenSolaris
A month ago, Jason Beloro told me that I'll lose my blogging license if I don't post another one soon, so I'm finally getting around to it :-)
This is just a quick ad for tomorrow night. I'll be presenting Building and Deploying OpenSolaris at the San Diego OpenSolaris User Group meeting. So, if you happen to live in San Diego, CA, you can show up at 9515 Towne Centre Drive, 92121, at 6:00PM to learn how to download, build, and install OpenSolaris source. I'll post the slides after the meeting for those who can't make it.
Thanks to Fintan Ryan for giving me the slides from his similar talk, which gave me a much-needed starting point for this talk.
In other news, we're finally getting close to another release of Solaris on Xen. We've made a whole lot of progress since the last drop a year ago, so hopefully this will work a lot better. I'm hoping this can be done by the end of the week. Watch John Levon's blog and Penny's virtualization blog for the release announcement.

A quick introduction
*tap* *tap* Is this thing on?
I just created my blog, so this is just a quick entry to figure out how this blogging thing works
I'll do the usual introduction thing, and tell you a bit about my history...
I started at Sun in January 2001, soon after graduation from college with a BS in Computer Engineering.
For five years or so, I did a lot of work on SPARC systems in ECC error recovery and fault management. I worked on the initial implementation of Predictive Self Healing and a few other projects. I also spent around 20 months in the SPARC sustaining group.
Late last year, I decided I wanted to get some experience in some other technologies out there, so I transferred to the Kernel Virtualization group [hence the blog name] and began working on the Xen project.
I've done work in a variety of areas in this project, but I think I'll leave that description for a later entry.
In my spare time, I ejoy playing video games (current time sink: Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion), and I also sing in a choir (baritone/bass).
So, now I can say I've joined the 21st century and posted a blog. I hope I didn't bore you too much.
