I went to the Maker faire a while back. It was fabulous. Nothing like it. I reminded me of bits of the first Linux World, the embedded section of the second Linux World, and exuberance I've haven't seen since pre-bubble bursting. I loved it. It fed my mind, and countless others around me. Can't wait till next years faire.
I wandered the exhibits, there was the robots with the obligatory fire shooting spinning bot, the large welding, massive heavy metal robots, the rocket booths, and rocket making clubs, the steam babage engine build from erector sets, yes the maker was British, the autonomous flocking blimps, whack arts and crafts, yarn, 1800s science dress garb, plugin hybrids, and the multitude of O'Reilly hackit booths like fixyourmax, hack your car, eff was there, and there were lots of little kids.
It was amazing. This is one of the first places where I felt that I completely fit in, -- minus the Microsoft exhibit.
