Solaris forwarding throughput improvement in the works

Welcome, and thanks for stopping by!

I am a senior software engineer in the Solaris networking group. I have been with Sun Microsystems for 12 years. Over the years, I have worked on multicast routing kernel hooks, IP/IPv6, porting FreeBSD's routed to Solaris, porting and integrating the Zebra routing suite to Solaris,as well as other various routing-related projects.

I am currently leading a project named "Surya". Surya will deliver forwarding throughput and scalability enhancements in Solaris. Along with providing a fast-forwarding lookup scheme, Surya also provides a streamlined forwarding path in the IP stack. The design specification document for Surya can be found at:

I am also interested in exploring router appliances using Solaris (akin to the now-defunct Linux Router Project). OpenSolaris gives me the opportunity to collaborate with folks within the opensource community regarding features/enhancements we, in Solaris Networking team, are working on for upcoming releases. Additionally, the community is free to propose features they'd like to see in Solaris.

If you are interested in more information about the Surya project, have interest in collaborating in routing-related features, or would simply like to provide feedback on what we are currently working on, feel free to comment on my blog, or drop us a line at networking-discuss@opensolaris.org
