Did 4 yesterday in between rain showers...

Got in a nice run yesterday in the middle of doing a weekend of spring cleaning. If you haven't run for a while, get back out there... I need to take my own advice and push harder on the exercise.

Ran 3.5 yesterday

You haven't seen this blog entry in a bit. I have turned into a slacker, but now I'm back. The weather is turning great and I'm mentally done with winter. I still have those winter pounds on me so back to work to look and feel good. I'm getting a kick out of taking my dog. He needs to blow off some steam as much as I do, so I get the good dog owner feeling plus the feel good from the run itself.

No better day than today to get your running/biking/workouts back on track.

Ran a quick 3 yesterday...

The weather was awesome late yesterday for a quick run. I ran right before dinner and it was still in the 60's with a light breeze. I love that the days are getting longer and the weather warmer.

Did 9.5 miles over the weekend...

I did 6 miles early Saturday morning and another 3.5 last night before dinner. Great weather for running, cool with warm sun and a slight breeze. I must admit that in shorts and short sleeves at 5pm yesterday and 52 degrees that after running for 30 minutes and a big wind blowing, I was cold as I finished up.

Ran 5 yesterday, chased kids on Saturday

My little one had an American Girl bday party on Saturday with 10 of her friends. The party was really cute and 10 girls make less noise and mess than 3 boys.

I was able to get out at 5pm yesterday and go for 5 miles. The extra daylight allowed for the later run which didn't conflict with dinner. Nice easy run with the pup for the first 1.5...

Doing stairs at the hotel...

I was three nights in a hotel this week, thankfully, it was the same hotel. I had time, made time, to workout on Wednesday evening and decided to run/walk/climb steps and wow that was tough. I did the 10 floors, took the elevator down and did that a few times... That was killer.

Did 6.5 yesterday...

Yesterday, I dropped my daughter off at lacrosse practice and went for a run. I ran a route that I have biked many times before, but never run. I went alongside the Rivanna River for 3 miles on a trail between the Glenmore Golf course and the river, which was flat and soft. The glass was beaten down from the winter's worth of horseback riding and was nice and soft. That said, there were slight twist and bumps that come from trail running, but a nice change from the pavement.

The weather is supposed to be really nice this week, so I hope to get out late afternoon or if early dinner, then right before it gets dark out. If you are a runner, everyone is looking for longer days and warmer weather.

Did 9 over the weekend

I had a great running weekend and overall another great weekend. I did 4 on Saturday before my little one's basketball games and then ran 5 yesterday and felt great. Almost no fatigue in legs yesterday which I expected with back to back days of running. Both runs were at 36-38 degrees, Saturday I wore no gloves or hat and I was cold, Sunday, I had both.

Also took the pup for both runs for 1.25 miles of it and he seems better behaved the rest of the day on both days. If you need another reason to run, it is for your dog's well being.

Ran 8 over the weekend...

I had a nice break from the kids over the weekend and got out to run twice. The weather wasn't too bad, but it was cold. It was 37 degrees but sunny. I'm not a windy day runner. I have turned to the gym and weights. It's working for Thin Guy, why not me.

Hitting the weights

I haven't run since Saturday but I did hit the weights on Sunday and yesterday and I must say, I feel great. Getting into a shape other than round has certainly lifted my spirits and I think it has kept me from getting sick like the other 3 folks in my house. If you are thinking of getting back in shape, start today. You will be glad you did.

Did 4 on Saturday and 40 MPH winds yesterday...

I did a great 4 on Saturday. I felt good the entire run. I took one walking break for about 30 minutes, which is down from 3 such breaks depending on how I'm feeling. I ran out of my to go further as it as nearly dark when I got home, yet still 55 degrees. Yesterday had wind gusts to 45 MPH, so the idea of getting blown around in 30 degree weather made hitting the weights a much more appealing thought.

Ran 3 yesterday

Since buying some really expensive extremely cold weather running gear, it has been quite mild. Yesterday was no exception. I did a pre dinner time run that was short and it was great to get back out. I was on travel for a few days, and likely needed a rest after a lot of miles this past weekend. I felt fresh and good for the whole run and will likely take today off and get some more miles in this weekend.

Another thought if you are trying to get back into running, take your dog. I have a French Bulldog that has tons of energy. I take him once/twice a week for the first 1.25 miles which is a loop and drop him back off at the house. He doesn't mind if I start and stop, but yesterday we ran the entire thing and he had tons of energy left.

Ran 11 over the weekend...

I had a great weekend of running. I got out for 5 and then 6 miles in great weather for my area for February. I ran on last Wednesday so a few days of rest before the Saturday run, which was an easy run. The Sunday run was great and I felt better the further I ran and had no backend deadline on getting home unlike Saturday when I had a basketball game to get my 6 year old to...

I have been quite pleased over the past 6 weeks of running and getting moving. While the weight isn't falling off yet, my jeans/slacks have been magically stretched to better fit me lately. In the end, that and being able to chase around my kids is what it is all about.

If you are thinking about starting running again or for the first time, just lace them up and go. Then 2 days later, go 100 yards further.

Did my first 5 miler of the year yesterday...

While it took 52 minutes and I did a fair amount of walking, I did it. On my normal 3.5 route, there is a spot where I can detour that adds the extra mile and a half. Yesterday, I was feeling pretty good, so I turned left when I got there. While it was not warm, 35-40, it wasn't the brutal cold from Sunday, which was 20 degrees colder. I was quite comfortable and ended up taking off my stocking cap and gloves for the last 2 miles. Trying to get the weight off, and I know that these miles have to be helping.

Running in cold weather...

I'm pleased to say that I ran friday late afternoon, Sunday noon-ish and yesterday. Friday and Sunday were outside. Friday late was cold, but Sunday was about 20 degrees with some wind once in a while. It was brutual. I thought I was prepared but my outer layer of polarfleece failed me. I think after talking to several more experienced runner, that my outer layer should have been tighter fitting or wind resistant. I am go out to my local running shop and look for something later.

I solved all of those issues by running on the treadmill at the gym yesterday, but it was boring.

Happy to take suggestions on outerwear. I did wear gloves and hat on Sunday and had on two layers top and bottom.
