Apple iPhone SDK request...

I would love to see a new weather application (for anyone playing with the SDK) that displays the current temp of the first city as part of the icon on the iPhone starting page... The calendar shows the correct date on the starting screen, why not get rid of the Cupertino weather, which is always sunny and 73 degrees, right???

I would gladly pay less than $5 for that application and with the 70/30 split on the iTunes application store, that could be some change if a mild rate of adoption followed... (Apple announced that they would take a 30% cut for any application approved and posted on iTunes.

Turning off Windows startup and shutdown chimes

I am in Chicago area at Sun training classes and three times in the session, someone in class has started or shutdown a laptop with a loud Window's signature chime. Other than being rude and making the rest of us hear your laziness of not turning off the chimes; it is also counter to Sun's culture. Depending on amount of coffee and how many more times I hear he chimes, I may pull aside the offending party.

Welcome to MySQL and Vaau teams...

What a day for software at Sun... The MySQL team is now part of Sun and part of the stuff that my team will be working with in our customer base. Same goes for Vaau and their award winning Role Management software. More products and no quota increase, how sweet is that.

I look forward to meeting my Federal peers at both companies.

Publishing iCal calendar to anything but a .Mac account???

I want to exchange and share calendar entries with my team. I have an .Mac account but the rest of my team does not. In iCal, one of the options on publish is a "private server" which I'm now playing with to determine if my "myfabrik.com" site will work with iCal. If anyone else has gotten this to work, I would love to know.

Accurate not great news or bad data that is favorable...

I went on a sales call yesterday to one of my customers in downtown DC and started asking a ton of questions on timing and what we needed to do to help them with the sale of my product. Turns out that the customer loves the product, can't wait to buy, but the budget has thrown them for a loop until likely summertime. While I was disappointed to make be closing current quarter business, we now know EXACTLY what we need to do to have a sure thing in say July. We need to not step on our own toes as it were. I had been getting bad data that was far more favorable. I'm not sure why the data news hadn't gotten to me sooner, but I will get to the bottom of that today.

Remember, the truth even if bad news is far better than trying to spin the facts to your benefit.

Love the new iPhone features

I downloaded and installed 1.1.3 for my phone and love the new features. I have redone my homepage but not yet SMS multiple folks. I needed that today when a concall started and the host was not on. I had that "did I screw up" thought.

Two items in my sent folder marked as Junk...

I was just searching for an old email and was surfing my sent folder and realized that several notes that I sent were marked as Junk... How in the world can that happen? Just seemed odd.

Upgraded to newest version of Mac OS

I'm blown away by the most recent release of the Mac OS... If the rest of IT were so easy, life would be good. The best parts are:

The new updates to Mail. I didn't like and didn't use the old mail client, instead I used Thunderbird. I love the data reader that looks for dates and phone numbers in email messages and will add those respectively to iCal and the address book. Also love the fact that I can add to-do's and notes into the mail client and then when I sync my iPhone, i get the to-do's listed as part of my inbox.

Time Machine seems to be the real deal. I'm about 1% into copying my HD on to an external SimpleTech drive so I can run the program. I'll advise on how this goes.

I'm not yet gotten my brain around the different workspaces and honestly I have this turned on, but I'm not yet using.

I am looking forward to using iChat's video conferencing to talk to some of the folks on my team, but haven't done so yet.

A couple of features needed for my iPhone

First, I love my iPhone. There are only a few things that I would ask to change.

The team that created the icon for the calendar such that it shows day and date and it updates. On the other hand the weather icon always shows the same 73 degrees and sunny, which would be great if indeed that were the weather. Here is my idea: show today's weather for my first/primary location on the icon.

Next and last - allow me to expand and collapse my email folders, just like my desktop mail client.

In case anyone is a direct link back to the iPhone team...

Good stuff happens when...

Things are changing. I'm in the McLean office (Washington, DC) and as I walk down the halls, I hear folks that I don't know talking about SOA and Identity. I have overheard 3 conversations just this morning, I plan to circle back around to offer help/support but this is a great problem to have.

It wasn't too long ago that no one wanted to talk software and now, my team is 100 mph with activity and deals. Still recruiting by the way.
