First anniversary of my first ever race coming soon...

Tuesday May 17, 2005

On May 29, 2004, I ran (well sort of) in a 3 mile walk/5 mile run event. I pushed my 6 year old in a jogger stroller. He ran about 50% of the race and honestly, I needed the walking breaks just to complete the race. My time - 39 minutes. Not exactly blistering the course or anything. But everyone has a first race.

After many miles, lots of reading and some good races, next weekend, I have the same race. The race is the same and gladly, I've changed a lot... I'm not pushing the little guy (he may run the 3 miler) and I'm doing the full 5 miles. My goal is only a few minutes above my time last year.

I did the course yesterday and stopped at the gym at mile 4, did squats and then finished the last mile. Let's just say that after doing 2 sets of 20 reps of 95 pounds, my thighs were real happy on the way home. I do think that running after (even slowly) helped work out any soreness that I might have otherwise had.

Enjoy your run or workout today.
