The running tunes on my iPod mini

Flat versus hilly - that is an easy one...

Sunday May 22, 2005

For the past two weeks, I have run my long run (7.0 then 7.5 miles) on a relatively flat surface near a local river. It is quite nice in that you run by the river, the path is asphalt and quite wide and is about 2.5 miles one way. So this week my long run was going to be back down at the river with a buddy. First, my buddy cancelled; which I totally understood but something hit me to run in my neighborhood and not drive into town to the river course.

Did I mention that my neighborhood is brutual hilly? I mean hills. The longest flat to rolling flat area is about 1.5 miles which was at the beginning of my run. It is also near my house and I have found myself cutting it short if I get too close to home. So 8 hilly miles is about 10 flat miles...

Next week, it will be back to the flat course.

Another bad running sign - you turn on your iPod and the battery is empty and flashing... I don't have a backup iPod or anything, so I decided to head out and see how far I got. Of course I got to 1.5 miles or so and came back past my driveway and all was good, no further signs of battery death. But at 4 miles, it totally died. So not only did I not have tunes to push me along, I had the added few ounces that annoyed me the rest of the way... (My dear wife killed the battery in the gym as her shuffle was out of juice, so she took mine)
