2004 - I ran and walked (mostly walked) 3 miles in my neighborhood run/walk race in 39 minutes...
511.5 miles later
2005 - I was quite pleased with my 42:38 for the 5 miles... Believe me, I had talked a big game to lots of neighbors, certainly learning to be quiet, but too late for this race. I had to prove myself to tons of friends that volunteered to help with the race. I was with the lead pack thru the first mile, which ended up around 7:10 pace and realized that I would never finish if I didn't back off.
I did slow down and ended up catching some of the walkers on the 3 mile course and ran with Bailey M. (age 8) for about 200 yards before she slowed back down and finished strong on a brutually hilly course.
The race proceeds went to the local elementary school's fitness program (my son goes to that school). It was also great to see the principal, Ashby K. running the 5 mile section as well. Nice race, Ashby.
My buddy Heidi smoked the field and won the overall race, she is wicked fast. Good job Heidi!!!
