Got my poker mojo back...

Tuesday Dec 09, 2008

Finally, after weeks of Monday evening travels, I was in town and able to go to my once regular poker game. Still $10 and still all my friends. I'm on the edge of being invited to play at the "Final 2008 table". I won last years "Nascar points event for our poker group" but haven't been playing well this year.

Last night I made it to about the half way point of the 30 person game and went to play cash. My better half came in 5th in the tourneyment. I lost $18.50 on my first hand and repurchased for $20 and managed to play on that for quite a while.

My biggest $$ winner of the night was 2h4s as the big blind for $1. Of the nine folks at the table, 8 called and I was happy to see a flop. Flop came with Ah, 3d, Qh... I needed a 5 for a straight. The first 7 players checked the flop and the dealer (last to act) bet $3. Oddly 6 folks called the $3, so the pot had $26 in it... The turn was a 5 of diamonds... I hit my straight but two hearts and two diamonds had me worried. I was the first to act and bet $10. I had two callers, so the pot was $56. The river card was a 9 of spades to likely no help to anyone. There was no pair on the board so no possible full house and only 2 cards to a flush so only a 6 high straight would be beaten me and I didn't put the other player on that. I bet $25, which sounds to high but the other guy had been on a massive roll on the last 5 hands and had a bucket of chips and he called. He said he had two pair but didn't show after I flipped my card and announced my straight. I think he had Q-9 at best. If he had AQ, than the hand certainly got away from him. That was a fun hand.

Dividing hotels into two groups:

Friday Dec 05, 2008

Ones that have digital thermosats and those that have wall units that have off, heat low, heat high and fan...

I stayed in the second group on Wednesday night, but honestly, it wasn't that bad. I may start asking that question when booking hotels that are "too cheap".

Hand me down memory...

Wednesday Dec 03, 2008

It became apparent when playing with Virtual Box that I needed more memory for my MacBookPro. I felt guilty needed to spend money right now until I looked at the prices of memory. A year ago, I was approving memory upgrades, from 2G to 4G for my team at $200 a pop. Last week, the same upgrade cost me $55 including shipping.

I went to youtube and watched several folks upgrade their laptops and off I went. The first time, I didn't push the new boards in hard enough and the laptop wouldn't boot up. Live and learn. It is working great now and the system shows 4G installed...

As a side note, MBP memory fits into MacBook as well, so I installed my old 1's into my wife's MB that had two 512's and double her memory. I have several sets of 1's if anyone has an issue or needs back the memory... :)
