RV Vacation in Yellowstone and Grand Teton Parks - part 4

Day 3

Found out that we couldn't renew our campsite, they were sold out so we made 2 nights reservations at Flagg Ranch located about 5 miles south of the Yellowstone south entrance gate.

We stayed to play in Grand Teton area and ended up with a 16 foot skiff rental. I felt like we had the entire national park to ourselves. Where are the crowds that everyone bitches about???

We drowned a bunch of earthworms in the name of fishing, but my little ones had fun. If you catch a lake trout, any of the park restuarants will cook it for you for a small charge - sadly, we couldn't take them up on the offer. We did get some great views and angles on Grand Teton and the other peaks. It is unreal how far up and how quick the Tetons rise from the valley floor.

In the spirit of not roughing it too much, we had dinner at Jackson Lake Lodge which is awe inspiring. Classic lodge hotel on the banks of Jackson Lake. Before our reservation, we went out with binoculars, only to spot a cow moose and her calf about 200 yards out in Willow Flats. I was the first to see the calf and was quite proud to point it out to others after the fact. It was a hot day and we caught the mother moose moving from shady spot to another shady spot at 5:15pm. After dinner at 7pm, she was still behind a bush and no one had seen her since we went in for dinner.

Dinner in the Mural Room at Jackson Lodge is highly recommended. While it was pricey, it was realllllly good.

We drove up to Flagg Ranch for the night. The campsite had full connections and a nice laundry. We meet some fellow Virginia Tech Hokies while doing laundry that night.
