Still Day 6

Lava Creek may be one of the coolest (actually warmest) things from the trip. Lava Creek flows only 100 feet that I could see, up thru a crack in a rock. The massive flow goes into the Gardner river right below the Manmouth Campground. The 140 degree water flows in the river making nice and inviting. The area open to the public has a crude rock wall surrounding the warm waters and keeping the ice cold waters at bay. Be careful as the rocks are quite slick, while carrying my daugther I split and got a nice one on my shin... Luckily, I found a spot where my shoulders were almost too hot and my leg was in icy water which was a great combination. The parking lot for the short flat hike to the public spot is right on the WY/MT state line which happens to be the 45th parralel.

If you are anywhere close, Lava Creek and Gardner are worth the detour. Lava Creek parking is 2 miles from Manmouth Falls and Gardner is another 4 miles away.
