Storms getting more violent???

My random thought today turns to the massive thunderstorms that woke me at 4:30am with a 15 minute light show and the thunder that followed. We had a downpour with all that noise as well. I kept waiting for little folks to crawl into bed, but they didn't... This storm, the recent VA tornado's from a few weeks ago aren't in the realm of normal from my past 9 years in VA.
