Weekend at the River...
Monday Oct 01, 2007
I'm pleased to report that the weather in Virginia is finally at the stage that it is awesome. Cool/cold nights and warm by noon with some heat in the late afternoon. The air in the shade is cool.
We went this weekend to my parent's place on the York River near West Point, VA for a birthday party for my dad. My folks have a place at Grey's Point where my brother in law stores his 22 foot boat. We were hell on some spot and a few croakers this weekend. It was great to get 5 kids (my 2 + my sisters 3) out on the water with dads and their granddad for some fun. On our saturday afternoon trip out, the boat caught about 20 fish which had us hopping from kid to kid baiting and removing hooks, but our sunday morning outting, we caught about 35 fish in 90 minutes, so there were times where 2 or 3 of us (i was fishing as well) had "fish on"... Even my daugther caught 2 nice sized spot and complained that she would have caught the third if her rod and reel been nice. (note to Santa).
After riding bikes all over the huge campground/park/marina, we loaded up on Sunday afternoon and decided to go the scenic way home, which really meant, not the way we came, but drive and make real time decisions on which way to go until we were nearly home.
We ended up in Kilmarnock, VA for late lunch at Joe's BBQ which is great. I have been to Joe's before and it never disappoints. We ate outside and had our puppy with us on their deck. An employee saw the pup and asked if he could bring him a bone. I was thinking "milk bone" or something small and fake, but given that we were at a BBQ joint, he brought out a charred shoulder blade that even looked good to me. How cool is that?
