Every community has its stars — the popular people who show up on the home page regularly (just like Jonathan Schwartz dominates blogs.sun.com). It's my pleasure to inaugurate the "SDN Share Top 10," those members who have distinguished themselves through their participation and contributions to the Sun Developer community, and other (ahem) notable behavior:

10. Best use of IM slang in a comment — filestream and ScarletPimpernel (tie).
Original post - A JTable With Alternating Row Colours

me finks u guyz is da bomb!

9. Most prolific voter — kevjava.

84 Very Cool votes cast, and 3 Needs Work votes cast!

8. Most popular tag — Java. Runner-up: java

A bit obvious, but I'm sure Duke is happy!

7. Most active submitter — jbodnar.

13 posts! You gotta love that.

6. Most interesting bio — filestream.

And, the only person to show up twice in our countdown.

5. Oldest member — swoodjr.

Yes, he is one of our developers, but no faulting him for nabbing this top spot.

4. Newest member — makkar.

Welcome, makkar! Enjoy the honor while it lasts. ;)

3. Most favorably commented-upon post — cotton.m.
Original post - PreparedStatements: Basic usage examples and why they are important.

Well done, cotton.m!

2. Most popular post — YoGee.
Original post - Defensive Copying

Congratulations, YoGee! Your post is the cream of the crop.

1. Most popular member — you!

If it weren't for you, there would be no SDN Share. You make it worthwhile for us and everybody else. Thank you — we appreciate your support!

Yikes! Since we launched SDN Share back in April, the community has gone from zero to almost 600 members! Thanks to all of you, we're growing. We've enjoyed reading your posts, following discussion threads, and browsing your tags, too.

Some of you have asked about adding features — such as:

  • Printer-friendly pages. Yep, this is a convenient feature and we're considering it.
  • Format My Posts and Comments. Today us admins apply HTML styles to plain text submissions, to improve readability and usability. If we continue to grow, we'll run out of cycles to edit posts, and we're thinking of ways submitters can format their own posts.
  • Edit My Posts. Gasp! We left this feature out. Only admins can edit posts, which doesn't help if you want to make a simple change to a post you submitted. We're rethinking the post and edit model ...

We've tweaked the "freshness" algorithm, so new posts show up at the top level on the home page much longer. Everyone deserves their 15 minutes of fame, and now your posts will stay in the spotlight for the community to behold, marvel, and grace with votes, tags, and comments.

Keep those submissions coming, and please let us know how we can improve SDN Share!

We're excited to be showing SDN Share today at the 2007 JavaOne Conference. To help pull in attendees to our booth, we've created a special promotional video. We had fun producing it (big thanks to our awesome intern Danny), and we think it's pretty cool.

Welcome! We're glad you found us. We built SDN Share just for you — whether you're just getting started or are an experienced developer, our goal is to provide a rich and rewarding experience worthy of your time.

Our inspiration for SDN Share comes from the community — you've told us in surveys that submitting and sharing content, interacting with other developers, and receiving tangible rewards for your participation are benefits you'd like to see added to the Sun Developer Network.

We quickly realized that to scale effectively, we needed your help. The time you spend posting articles, adding comments, voting on your favorites, and tagging and subscribing improve the site for everyone else.

Our job is to listen well, be responsive to your feedback, and tune the site to provide the best possible experience. But, the usefulness and value of SDN Share depends on people like yourself — the content you explore, the connections you make, and the friends who you invite.

Enjoy SDN Share, and please tell us how we can improve your experience.
