Recently I attended a 3 day PRINCE2 foundation training class. Since them, I've started to use this methodology to secure projects I'm working on.

PRINCE2 (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) is a process-based method for effective project management. PRINCE2 is a de facto standard used extensively by the UK Government and is widely recognised and used in the private sector, both in the UK and internationally.

The key features of PRINCE2 are:

  • Its focus on business justification
  • A defined organization structure for the project management team
  • Its product-based planning approach
  • Its emphasis on dividing the project into manageable and controllable stages
  • Its flexibility to be applied at a level appropriate to the project

Hi Sylvain,

I'm glad that you like Prince2. I has helped me a lot with controlling my projects and make them more successful.

I've done some projects now and went for the practitioner certificate.

What are your experiences on using Prince2? (You can leave a comment on my Weblog if you want.)

Good luck on your projects.

Hi René,

I've been using (part of) Prince2 for customer design support projects. Such projects involve product engineering, support team, professional services, account team etc and it is key to clearly define roles, deliverables since the inception of the project.

Thanks for your comments and for your blog on Prince2!

Cheers

-Sylvain

still having the Prince 2 certification is of course good, as it gives you a good foundation how to control problems that you can be accountable for. Having this as a base will allow any project manager to have more trust in his own skill set to allow more time to discover informal ways to get unofficial achievements that can be valuable
