And the Oscar Goes to... a Book?

"Just leave the camera running until we say something genius." — "There is not enough tape for that."

Muhahahaha, don't mess with Talley... After lunch, he took a few shots of Roman interviewing Patrick about the new Edition of the NetBeans FieldGuide — and dudes, he'll totally cut and edit the tape and turn it into a two hour special FX action movie that'll be a summer blockbuster and we'll all become rich and famous, and you better believe it!! :-P Or maybe it'll be just an interview.

The docs writers and evangelists did a good job at updating the FieldGuide to include the latest 5.0 features (Matisse, Editor, Developer Collaboration, that sort of thing), and how they laid out the chapters so you can dive right into any topic and stuff — weird, listening to them chat made me curious about the book even though I already knew about it. We also just uploaded the table of contents and two sample chapters as PDF yesterday, have a look and tell us what you think.

But since PDFs kinda suck for stuff like swatting flies and reading on the toilet, there'll also be an analog paper version. And in case this secret information get censored out of the afore-mentioned movie — try to be in San Francisco on May 15, because the first batch of the FieldGuides will be given away for free at the NetBeans Day Finale. First come, first serve. And when you're already there, stay for the demos where we show how to develop web apps, rich client apps, and mobile phone applications (yupp, the whole thing, entrance, talks and registration is free).

PS:

Oh and guys, you know who you are, we're always happy to answer your questions, but honestly, two remarks: 1) Please be more subtle than just forwarding what your teacher sent you. The webmasters won't do your Java homework assignments. You know how your fellow students do it? They post their Java programming questions to the nbusers mailinglist and the java intro mailinglist. Th3y kn0w 5tuff. And 2), to bust another myth, no, we do not give away free computers. We give away free software (and tutorials) — Sorry guys, really, nice try. :-P
