Friday November 09, 2007 The Return of the Christmas Easter Egg
Two years ago, Geertjan discovered an Easter Egg for Christmas in NetBeans 5.0: A hidden action that creates an HTML file containing your keyboard shortcuts for all keymap profiles. This is very helpful if you customized the shortcuts heavily and can no longer use the default keyboard shortcut card from the Help menu.
Over time, the easter egg sank into oblivion. But recently I talked to Geertjan about it, and we rediscovered it.
Geertjan's instructions are still correct, you find it in the Options menu under Keymaps. Only one thing changed -- the action is no longer in the 'Other' category, it is now hiding under 'Window'.
All you have to do is to create a shortcut to trigger the Export Shortcuts to HTML action (follow Geertjan's instructions if you don't know how).
Your custom keyboard shortcut card is then saved in your home directory under ~/.netbeans/dev/config/shortcuts.html.
PS: In MacOS, you open the hidden .netbeans folder with the Go To Folder menu item in the Finder (Enter ~/.netbeans/dev/config/).
PPS: Click the screenshot to see it in full size.
