Here's a crazy idea, which you are not allowed to use, because it's mean and very, very annoying: When deciding on a name for your company, choose a name that the Google spelling corrector will offer as an alternative when people enter the name of your chief competitor.

Looks like Google spelling suggestions are available via the Google Web APIs, so you can even figure out your new company's name with their help, assuming that you only want to try out 1,000 names per day.

Surely some evil (and annoying, don't forget that!) person's already doing this?

Oh, and straightforward boolean search has problems, even with the help of link counting algorithms. See, for example, a Google query for google spelling corrector. You'll probably see me talk more about this problem (and related ones) in the future.
