The Shift to Selective Sourcing
An interesting article came to my attention (thanks Connie B!) around Selective Sourcing last friday... just had a chance to read it and it has some really interesting and timely information with the punch line being the move to selective sourcing is really being seen as companies sign smaller and more selective outsourcing deals. This market trend should help us as we carry our message to customers.
It is worth a read and it is at the following URL
http://jobfunctions.bnet.com/abstract.aspx?docid=143604&promo=300111
and i would be really rude (if not downright illegal) if i didn't pass on all the appropriate kudos and credits to our colleagues at Forrester research for their usual fine effort here.
As always, let us know your thoughts
best

Welcome to the Selective Sourcing Weblog
Welcome to our Selective Sourcing Blog! Our aim is to establish a community that is industry based to discuss/debate/challenge some of the thoughts and approaches around the whole area of management services especially as it relates to Sun's approach - selective sourcing.... First, let me introduce myself... my name is Ken Buchanan and I am a director at Sun Microsystems, my specialty area has been in the management and operation of large scale datacenter environments as an end-user with some of the world's largest companies such as British Petroleum and now working with Sun to help our Clients attain the kind of outstanding IT operational efficiencies and capabilities that our own internal IT Operations team has posted over the years (I won't steal their thunder but let me say that we really kick butt when it comes to running a highly responsive and low cost IT infrastructure!). There are a couple of goals for this blog and site and they are to... 1) maintain an open forum... we all have our biases but it is important that we have an opportunity to attract the best ideas in the industry and share them 2) share some real tips from industry practitioners whether they be end-user operational staff or industry consultants/analysts 3) provide a place where we can post info on industry briefings and events (like the Selective Sourcing Seminars) 4) seek an international perspective, participation and audience... having spent more time since 1990 living outside the US than I have inside, I am keenly aware of the really great work being done all over the world, let's share it now some don'ts... 1) pitch or advertise, this is not a sales site per se 2) disrespect colleagues or competitors 3) fail to keep an open mind or a sense of humour So without further ado, let me get this posted and I look forward to hearing from you on a very frequent basis... best regards, ken buchanan
